At Rescue the Underdog, we believe in the transformative power of second chances, the hope of redemption, and most of all, in the underdogs. We are here for the seniors, the shy, the special needs, and all the pups who simply need someone to believe in them. Our commitment is to give them safety, love, and a path to the life they deserve.

Our Mission
Rescue the Underdog is a San Francisco–based, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to saving dogs from high-kill shelters. Most come from California’s Central Valley, often just hours before euthanasia. Some are strays, some are surrendered for being “too old,” and many need medical care or socialization.
We welcome the dogs other rescues turn away because to us, every dog matters. From healthy young pups to seniors in need of comfort, we provide medical treatment, safe foster homes, and the support they need to heal until they find forever families.

Every dog we rescue has a story. Some need patient adopters who will give them time to trust again, while others are ready to love from the moment you meet. Watching an underdog’s transformation from fear to joy is why we do what we do.
