Rescue the Underdog, a 501(c)3 organization, is a small San Francisco based, volunteer-run organization that saves dogs from being euthanized in high kill shelters.
Most of our dogs are rescued from the Central Valley, often just hours before being put down. Some are strays, while others are surrendered simply because they are “old.” Rescue the Underdog strives to save as many dogs as possible, with the ultimate goal of saving them all. We take in dogs that no other rescue will accept, which often means we end up with less popular breeds, older dogs, those needing special medical care, or dogs requiring socialization. However, we also have plenty of young, healthy, well-adjusted dogs abandoned for no apparent reason. We do everything in our power to save them all, provide necessary medical care, place them in loving foster homes, and socialize them, eventually leading to their adoption into forever homes.
Our dogs are special, and many need adopters who will give them time to adjust and feel safe in their new loving homes. Our reward is saving these precious lives and witnessing the joy we bring to people's lives when they find their perfect match in an Underdog. There is no greater joy than seeing an underdog's transformation, from the moment they are pulled from the shelter to when they are adopted by a loving family.
